Luxury Swiss Watchmaker Collaborates with British Motor Racing Icon.

Girard-Perregaux, a leading Swiss luxury watchmaker, is back with its fourth collaboration with the British luxury car maker and Formula 1 team, Aston Martin. This time, they have created the Green Ceramic Laureato Aston Martin Edition, a tribute to the legacy of British motor racing. The new timepiece has a green case, strap, and dial, marking the first time that a Laureato model has been created with a green colour.

The Swiss watchmaker has already worked with Aston Martin to produce three other limited-edition watches, and the latest release is a testament to their commitment to excellence. The debut Tourbillon with Three Bridges, limited to 18 pieces, was the most remarkable of the previous editions, priced at $146,000.

This latest innovation, while still technically challenging, will be a little more accessible, with a 42mm edition limited to 388 pieces priced at $25,800 and a 38mm edition limited to 188 priced at $25,000. However, it is expected that demand will outstrip supply, so interested parties should move fast.

Green Ceramic: A Tribute to British Racing

The green colour of the watch was inspired by the colour of Aston Martin‘s Formula 1 car, which dates back to the origins of motor racing. The British cars at the 1900 motor race were dressed in dark green, a colour that symbolises high performance and success on the track to this day.

The watch case and strap are made of zirconium oxide, a fine powder consisting of micro-beads measuring less than 0.01mm. The highest quality zirconium oxide was sourced by Girard-Perregaux to ensure that the watch retains its shine and durability, making it seven times stronger than steel. The ceramic used in the watch is also scratch-resistant, meaning that the timepiece should look as good as new when it is passed down to the next generation.

The Timeless Appeal of the 1970s

The first Girard-Perregaux Laureato was launched in 1975, and the octagonal bezel has been a hallmark of the watch ever since. The design is timeless, much like the iconic Aston Martin models. The green ceramic in the new edition reminds us of Aston Martin’s modern cars, such as the DBS 770 in dark green, and also of the 1971 DBS V8, which has clean-cut lines similar to the Laureato.

Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Girard-Perregaux, said: “From the outset, the design of the Laureato was distinctive, yet cohesive. Its styling encompassed geometric, clean-cut lines while exhibiting a slightly gentle character. The same ingredients are much in evidence with the new Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition, along with the addition of an interesting, highly contemporary material.”

The watch dial has a cross-hatched pattern inspired by the Aston Martin logo. The hour and minute hands are skeletonised to symbolise lightness. Both the 42mm and 38mm editions of the timepiece have in-house automatic movements that can be admired through a see-through case-back, with only the Aston Martin logo blocking the view. The movements have a power reserve of 54 hours (42mm) and 46 hours (38mm), respectively.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Girard-Perregaux Green Ceramic Laureato Aston Martin Edition is a remarkable watch that pays tribute to the legacy of British motor racing while also featuring modern and innovative design elements. The green ceramic material is incredibly strong and scratch-resistant, ensuring the watch will look as good as new for years to come. Additionally, the in-house automatic movements and see-through case-back add a touch of elegance and sophistication to this timepiece.

If you are a luxury lifestyle enthusiast or a collector of high-end watches, the Girard-Perregaux Green Ceramic Laureato Aston Martin Edition is definitely worth considering. Its limited availability and unique design make it a highly sought-after piece that will surely add value to any collection.
